Adult Orthopedic Trauma Fellowship

This fellowship operates out of Lions Gate Hospital (LGH), in North Vancouver, British Columbia. LGH is a regional referral centre that services the entire coastal region, including North & West Vancouver, Whistler, Sunshine Coast, the Sea to Sky corridor, and the communities on the West Coast of British Columbia. The Division of Orthopedics is affiliated with the University of British Columbia and is actively involved in the teaching of medical students, residents and fellows.

The orthopedic trauma team performs over 1,500 orthopedic trauma cases per year. There is a high volume of complex extremity fractures, multi-ligament knee injuries and periprosthetic fractures. Its proximity to Whistler Mountain Resort and Sea-to-Sky recreational areas makes LGH the primary referral centre for the sports-related injuries in the area. The orthopedic surgeons at LGH have a dedicated trauma room that averages 50-55 hours per week of daytime, trauma-only, operating time.

This trauma fellowship does exactly what it says it will do. The learner will gain valuable knowledge and experience in the treatment of complex extremity injuries and their sequelae. The fellow be exposed to the skill set of six orthopedic trauma surgeons who all have elective sub-specialties. Our physician page has more detailed information on this.
