“Over my years of training and surgical practice I have developed a greater understanding of the precise interplay between form and function as it pertains to the musculoskeletal system. Whether reconstructing a prosthetic joint or repairing the damaged bone and tissue from a traumatic injury, restoring normal anatomy and biomechanics is critical to obtaining the best functional outcome.”
Ryan L. Deckers, specializes in orthopedic surgery. He began his educational career in Manchester, United Kingdom earning his bachelor’s degree in bioengineering then to Liverpool to earn his Master of Science in Orthopedic Engineering. Eventually, he moved to University of California, Berkeley to further his education and training by completing an additional master’s degree in Bioengineering. Between his years in medical school, Dr. Deckers earned the Outstanding Graduate Student Instructor award for his teaching. He then attended Stanford University Hospital Palo Alto, California for his Adult Total Joint Reconstruction Fellowship..
Upon completing medical school, he moved to Texas for an orthopaedic surgery residency through the University of Texas Medical Branch, where he won the “Golden Bone” resident teaching award in 2016.
More recently, Dr. Deckers has been involved in a collaborative initiative to improve communication between healthcare providers and to redesign the standard referral and consultation processes. Key components include centralized referral and triage, integration with electronic medical record systems, an orthopedic telephone advice line, and expedited patient assessments through the Regional Orthopedic Consultation Clinic. This widely acclaimed project is ongoing with a roll-out of completed phases already underway.
Some of his hobbies include rock climbing, woodworking, and playing golf. He also enjoys auto-mechanics, electronic design and creation of 3D printed models for surgical planning.
